Taking the Process Home

Kitchen2018 was incredible year for not only Domers Construction, but also for the Domers’s family.  I had an opportunity to team up with a local builder (Craft Custom Homes) and construct a new house for my family.  Our brood of six no longer fit into the cozy (i.e. small) three-bedroom, one and a half bath colonial we had lived in and quickly outgrew over the past decade.

Before starting construction, my design team and I laid out floor plans tailored to meet the current (and evolving) needs of our family…(past and current clients, sound familiar?)  My wife and I selected every finish, fixture and customized detail...(Sound familiar?)  Once the “shell” of the house was completed, I shook the dust off my tool belt and installed every door, piece of trim, all the cabinets (even built a few!), carefully placed every tile, painted every surface and sweated EVERY detail.

I have decided to showcase my personal house for a few reasons.  First and foremost, I was humbled by this incredible opportunity. Secondly, I am proud of both the form and function of the finished product.  And finally, and most importantly, because “sitting on the other side of the table” really gave me a chance to walk in my clients’ shoes:  To ride the emotional coaster that is the design-build process.  Experiencing, first-hand, the excitement, the pressure, the husband/wife battles, the thrills and spills of the journey and the absolute enjoyment of the finished product has helped me to become more attuned to what each of my valued clients go through every step of the way.

Over the next few months I will be highlighting some of these special details with you.  I look forward to sharing my own home designs with you; I hope they inspire you to let us help you design exactly what you want, and then build it.  So, go ahead… DESIGN. BUILD. ENJOY.
